As a game master who enjoys running horror games, I wanted to try something different for a recent Halloween one-shot. I landed on the idea of a game where all the players are cats, so I checked out Cathulhu, a supplement for Call of Cthulhu by Sixtystone Press.
I typically run games online using Roll20, but I couldn’t find a Roll20 character sheet that was specifically designed for Cathulhu.
You can technically use the standard Call of Cthulhu character sheet for a Cathulhu game, but I could already see that it would lead to some serious bookkeeping issues during gameplay. There are quite a few mechanics in Cathulhu that don’t exist in standard Call of Cthulhu. Examples include Sentience, Cat Breeds, and Tricks. I wanted to make sure that both my players and I had an easy way to track these things on Roll20.
I decided to create a custom HTML/CSS character sheet for Cathulhu that anyone can use on Roll20. You can find the code on my GitHub.
About the Character Sheet Code
I’m a game master, not a professional programmer. I just needed a functional character sheet that I could use to run the game with my friends, so I focused on practicality over perfection. If you’re a developer, you’re welcome to use my code as a starting point for your own character sheets.
Dice Rolls and Advantages
The character sheet can be used for all the dice rolls that you’ll need for Cathulhu. The output for each roll shows both regular rolls and rolls with advantage and disadvantage. I noticed that this confused some of my players. You can safely ignore the advantage and disadvantage mechanics if you’re not using them in your game.
I put this character sheet together to help other game masters run Cathulhu on Roll20. It is not officially endorsed in any way by anyone, including Roll20 or the publisher of Cathulhu. But I hope you have fun playing this unique system!
