This is a set of five maps suitable for virtual tabletop or printing. These maps are inspired by Orne Library on the Miskatonic University campus as part of the Cthulhu Mythos setting originated by H.P. Lovecraft. However, this is only one gamemaster’s view of what the library might look like if it had to be translated into a tabletop roleplaying game!
Gamemasters, use this for your adventure if you need a creepy, multi-level library with many mysteries to discover! While the map leans toward the Classic Era of Call of Cthulhu, with no special technology throughout the Orne Library facility, you might embellish it with modern elements if needed.

The map consists of the following levels and rooms:
Roof
- Not much to see here, but useful to “keep a lid on” things
Tower
- A lookout over the Miskatonic University campus
Second Floor
- Special Collections, including a reading area for the Necronomicon
- Faculty and librarian offices
- An atrium to look down to the first floor
First Floor
- Reference desk
- Administrator’s office
- Open study area
- Collections for liberal arts, medicine, business, etc.
- Two restrooms
- Stairs up and down
Basement
- Break room
- Custodian’s closet
- Club room, where graduate students might meet
- Document conservation lab
- File room
- General archives
- Storage room
- The Orne Archive
- Hidden room
There is no specific room map key, so these maps are suitable for any story that a gamemaster might envision that needs a library setting.
All maps of all levels are 1750×1750 pixels. The download, available for sale on DriveThruRPG, consists of the five different map levels in several versions of JPG and PNG. There are a total of 40 JPGs and 40 PNGs in various combinations of:
- With flat lighting (that is not artistic, but which you might embellish on your own with dynamic lighting in a VTT)
- With fancier lighting
- With and without tactical grids
- With and without my copyright map decoration (although please respect the copyright)
Pick the version(s) that work best for your games. The JPGs are smaller in file size and probably okay for most virtual tabletops.
