“Blank” – A 1920s Call of Cthulhu Adventure, Maps, and Music!

I’m a lucky game master! Sometimes, I have ideas, and they turn out to be fun — fun to build a scenario around, fun to run, and fun to share with others. And one of my favorites has been the scenario I authored called “Blank” about a 1920s ragtime band. Here’s how I describe it …

It’s New Year’s Eve in Boston and the clock counts down to 1925. You’ve snagged a special invitation to an exclusive celebration, an evening of buzzing burlesque, crackerjack comedy, and hot jazz! And even though it’s Prohibition, no one will bat an eye if you take a sip of something-something and dance until dawn. But the new year starts exactly wrong as you’re warned about a mysterious theft with catastrophic implications. Your favorite entertainers are in a jam. Investigators, it’s up to you to face the music.

I had the opportunity to run this game again very recently for some local friends and I decided to gild the lily. That is, because the scenario revolves around music, I decided it should have some music in it from the band at the center of the story. And so, with the combination of my own lyrics and one of the popular AI-powered music apps, I’ve made a playlist to go along with the scenario. It’s here:

I understand that it’s an uncertain time and that how we should use AI and the sources used to train AI are the subject to some controversy. I’m giving away the link to the playlist in case it would be nice for other Keepers of Arcane Lore to have some music to play if they run the scenario in their home games. But, if it’s not for you, please ignore.

Additionally, because I publish both the scenario and maps on DriveThruRPG, I’ve finally pulled both together into a bundle with a discount.

If you run this, I hope you have fun! Billy Blank and the Blankety-Blanks were great characters to create and  the Mythos connections for the scenario made the idea a great fit for the Call of Cthulhu system. Stay cool, daddio!
